Smart Agriculture

Technologies that increase productivity, profit and quality in agricultural areas create “intelligent agriculture” solutions and bring the concept of Agriculture 4.0 into our lives, especially together with the development of Industry 4.0. The interaction of the machines, which are the results of the digital transformation, is also complemented by agriculture, increasing productivity and minimizing losses.

The Internet of Things(IoT) technology is expected to play an important role in increasing agricultural productivity to meet increasing food demand in proportion to the growing population. The total addressable market for smart agriculture is expected to increase from $13.7 billion in 2015 to $26.8 billion by a compound growth rate of 14.3% from 2020.

IoT systems can improve the quality and quantity of agricultural production by addressing problems in agricultural areas, making farms smarter and more connected. Intelligent farming solutions include advanced IoT-based technologies and solutions that collect real-time data, analyze the gathered data and take actions with control mechanisms to improve operational efficiency and minimize waste. Various IoT-based applications such as precision farming, smart irrigation, and smart greenhouse are thought to be highly effective in the development of agricultural operations.

How Smart Agriculture Solutions Provide Benefits?

One of agricultural IoT’s biggest goals is to increase productivity to the highest level. However, as natural resources are used as much as needed, costs are also decreasing. In this way, waste of resources is prevented and quality product is produced at the minimum cost.

With the help of developed smart agricultural technologies, digital sensors provide opportunities for monitoring natural conditions such as soil quality, humidity, temperature, preventing unnecessary use of resources such as water and electricity and reducing water pollution. Besides, farmers can evaluate real-time production performance with these systems and analyze all products and resources in detail.

IoT solutions also support the analysis of substances such as heavy metals in the soil and provide the advantage of managing the remote operation. It is possible to protect natural resources in this way and green energy provides the opportunity to harvest products without decay. It is also possible to obtain better quality and more products with the right amount of water, sprayed and fertilized fields at the right time.

In traditional farming methods, farmers need to be in the field and constantly monitor the condition of crops and land. However, at the larger farms, this has become much more difficult. Especially in different fields with micro-farming, traditional farming cannot provide an effective solution for crops that require precise control of soil and water. Today, intelligent irrigation and remote controls are linked with intelligent sensors, which allows farmers to overcome the major challenges at the green areas by monitoring and controlling soil and air temperature, pH and other environmental conditions.

One of the most important contributions of smart agriculture after increasing productivity is that it reduces the risks related to food safety and human health. By analyzing the unwanted substances in the solid and obtaining detailed information, it is possible to provide consumers to well-known and traceable products.S
